Propogating Summaries

Why upgrade to Crystal Reports XI Release 2?  Well, here is one reason:

Let’s say that you have a report with multiple groups (three to be exact) and you want to insert a summary into the footer for each of your groups as well as a grand total at the bottom of the report.  With Crystal Reports XI release 1, you would have to recreate the summary four times; one for each group and 1 grand total.  Well, with Crystal Reports XI release 2 we would only have to create the summary once and then we can have it propagated to each level of the report.

Here is how to do it...

Once you have created your report and inserted your groups; from the insert menu select summary.  Select the field you want to summarize, then the type of summary, and finally select the ‘Add to all group levels’ check box underneath the summary location drop list and click on the ‘OK’ button.  When this check box is selected, a summary will automatically be created and displayed for every group in your report.  The default location is the group footer.

Brain Teaser #2

You put money in your new bank account every day. You deposit money in your bank account in such a way that the money doubles with each passing day. If you put in 1 cent the first day, 2 cents the second day, 4 cents the third day and so on, then your bank gets full on the 9th day. On which day will your bank account be half-full?

 

Answer #2

Since the money in the bank account doubles with each passing day, the bank account will be half-full the day previous to the one which it gets full.  Therefore, the bank account will be half-full on the 8th day.
