Tips & Tricks

BusinessObjects Enterprise XI:  Scheduling Reports to Printers

Having trouble trying to get your scheduled reports to print out on network printers?  Here’s a simple solution:

  • Go to your BusinessObjects Enterprise XI server and open up the CMC from Start Bar> Programs>BusinessObjects 11>BusinessObjects Enterprise>CMC
  • Stop your Crystal Reports Job Server and view it’s properties
  • From the Properties tab, in the “log on as” section, down near the bottom of the window deselect the system account checkbox and enter a user name and password for someone who has rights to access the network. (ie. someone with administrative rights to your network)

What this does:  By default, BO Enterprise installs your services on a local system account.  The problem is that the system account doesn’t have rights to go outside of the local machine and access anything on your network (ie. printers, databases, SMTP servers).  By imputing the new user credentials, you allow the service to see objects and destinations that are out on the server.

Answers to December’s Brain Teasers

Brain Teaser #1

A man is walking down a road with a basket of eggs. As he is walking he meets someone who buys one half of his eggs plus one-half of an egg. He walks a little further and meets

another person who buys one-half of his eggs plus one-half of an egg. After proceeding further he meets another person who buys one-half of his eggs plus one half

an egg. At this point he has sold all of his eggs, and he never broke an egg.  How many eggs did the man have to start with?

Answer #1:

7 eggs.  The first person bought one half of his eggs plus one half an egg (3 ½ + ½ = 4 eggs).  This left him with 3 eggs.  The second person bought one-half of his eggs plus one half and egg, (1 ½ + ½ = 2 eggs) leaving the man with 1 egg.  An finally, the last person bought one-half of his eggs plus one-half and egg, ( ½ + ½ = 1) leaving him with no eggs.

Brain Teaser #2

A man goes into a hardware store to purchase some knobs. He can purchase one knob with as few as 4 coins, two knobs with as few as 6 coins and 3 knobs with as few as 2 coins. How much does one knob cost using the fewest number of coins?

Answer #2

One knob costs $0.17

Brain Teaser #2

There is a nine digit number with each of the digits from 1 to 9 appearing once. The whole number is divisible by 9. If you remove the rightmost number, the remaining 8 digit number is divisible by 8. Remove the rightmost number again and the remaining 7 digit number is divisible by 7. This pattern continues right down to a single digit. What is the number?

Be one of the first 10 responses with both correct answers and win a BridgeBuilder 2006 keyboard calendar!!  Please send your answer to Storey.Marshall@bridgebuilder.com.

Good luck!
